Updated: Tuesday, June 30, 2020

We usually push out the Spotlight Magazine links on the first of the month in a special email, but our normal newsletter day happens to be the first of July so we decided to go with bigger and give it all to you at one time.
Make sure to see the entry below about a new webinar option on ATS, after Matt Becker was overwhelmed with questions on the most recent Spotlight on You session we decided to spin this off into its own session on July 22nd. If you want more Jay Block, make sure to also sign up for his monthly session as well on July 15th.
And if you are not screen weary, the Rising Professionals group meets this Thursday. Designed for those new to the industry, this networking group will cover Resume Agreements this week along with whatever else comes up in their discussions. Register on parwcc.com for any or all of these.

Read the full newsletter here.

Excited this week to launch the first of many Free Marketing Tools for members - the Gearbox. At the top of every survey we do are requests for help to build your business and PARWCC will continue to build and provide this members-only program to you with fresh materials released regularly.

We feature this week one of our newer columnists ,Heidi Giusto, giving 20 ways to support a career search in these odd times.

Last week we had the largest crowd yet for the now-monthly Spotlight on You webinar-chat series. July's session will be on the 17th with a guest list still being locked down.(This is free to members but we forgot to turn that on at first - so please go back to register if you hit a screen saying you were supposed to pay.)

If you want a more intimate networking opportunity, the Rising Professionals group has a meeting next week, check out the note below.

I continue to appreciate the email and phone calls telling us what YOU need to succeed, please keep them coming.

Spotlight on You returns in a new, monthly format. At this writing, more than 150 people are signed up. If you haven't tried one yet, grab a beverage, join us and strap in for an unusual ride. And speaking of rides, Don Orlando dispenses his always timely, always sage advice using his favorite car as the column foil for juicing up your practice in his blog this week.
Please reach out with any topics you would like to see covered in future newsletters or the Spotlight Magazine.

Last week we had the first meeting of the new Rising Professionals group - big shout out to Stephanie Renk and Vera Savany for moderating and getting this program off the ground. They are working on next steps, chime in with your thoughts here.
Spotlight on You returns in a longer, monthly format as most attendees sought more depth on the topics.

Later this month we will be debuting a full kit of marketing materials designed for members to deploy in their practices to build awareness of their credibility and skills. Called the Gearbox, the program builds on the successful concept used by our CPCC program.
Stay safe and stay in touch!

A Message In These Times

Posted By Administration, Monday, June 8, 2020

Dear PARWCC Friends,

Right now, in the United States of America, a glaring light has been shown on centuries of racial injustice and abuses of power. The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and thousands more individuals who were singled out and murdered for their race necessitates us to unequivocally say that Black lives matter. They matter to us as individuals, as fellow human beings, and as our colleagues. The Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches has, since our founding, served as a place for career professionals of all races, genders, and backgrounds to come together and grow professionally. We will continue to provide opportunities for communication and collaboration in the hope that every interaction will make us more compassionate, more thoughtful, and more aware of our role in meaningful change.

With hope for justice and peace,

Margaret Phares Executive Director PARWCC

June Spotlight, and More!

Posted By Administration, Tuesday, June 2, 2020

Dear PARWCC friends,

It’s a Covid, Covid, Covid world out there! I know a lot of our members have been touched by the physical implications of the virus and you are all, truly, in my heart.

Here at HQ I think, actually, it’s been pretty good for us. Now, hear me out. I’d much rather we never had to hear about face masks and how curvy the curve is! However, the need to provide for our membership was a big push for us to move some initiatives ahead.

I’d like to extend my personal thanks to Jay Block for so generously giving his time to Spotlight on YOU for the month of May. This sports radio meets webinar format was all him! To the guests he conned, er, convinced, to appear with him, Diane Hudson, Bruce Wahlgren, Tammy Ditzel, Heidi Guisto, and Don Orlando, thank you all! Keep an eye out for Jay to reappear with his infectious enthusiasm and mad skills on a regular schedule!

Have you checked out the Career Center? We have partnered with our website platform providers on a Career Center option that links more than 2500 associations with over three million members. If you are looking for a job or looking to hire, that’s a great place to check first and keep an eye on!

Wait! There’s more! Our market research suggested, members who are new to the industry have unique needs and wanted to connect with each other. June will see our inaugural edition of Rising Professionals, which will be available to PARWCC members. HUGE thank you goes out to your hosts Stephanie Renk and Vera Sadavoy. Want to talk to someone who is in your shoes? Sign up and enjoy the energy of this dynamic duo. I left the organizational call with them so excited to get back to work! On a MONDAY no less. Let them know what topics you want to cover by using the forums on our website.

We’ve had to make a variety of concessions to normal practices and pivot quickly to accommodate some of your needs when you didn’t have all your tools at hand. Our thanks to everyone for the understanding! If you can find a few extra minutes, download this month's Spotlight Magazine for all kinds of great information.

All my best.

For those operating in the U.S. this is a short work week as we observed Memorial Day Monday and with it the 'official' kick off to summer. During these odd times we are in it doesn't feel like it to to us, how about you? Share your thoughts with me.

Wednesday we are wrapping up the Spotlight on You webinar chat series with its fourth weekly installment. Not surprisingly, Jay Block's spirited approach to blending his wisdom with that of his rotating panelists and your questions has been a hit. He's been hosting about 100 participants each time. Spotlight on You will take a short time off and return on a regular schedule at least monthly. Join us this week? The sessions are free to members and good even to play in the background if your desk piled up like mine over the long weekend.

Newsletter Notes

How is everyone doing this week!?  As the States start to open up, we will all be feeling a lot of different things I’m sure!  HQ is located in Florida, so we are lucky to have lots of sunshine and blue skies - I understand my friends to the North aren’t so lucky.  Are you a member from Canada or another country? Reach out!  I want to hear how your country is doing!  Hello to friends in Spain - I’ve talked to some of you this week!  This is a whole new situation that makes me appreciate our global community!

If you aren’t from the States do you have something you want or need from PARWCC that we have yet to address?  Let me know by e-mailing me at mphares@parwcc.com

This month's Spotlight Magazine featured several timely columns - a discussion on motivating in times of stress, a piece on pricing and discounting and thoughts on condensing work for busy hiring managers.  Members can access it in the Spotlight Archives.

Check out Don Olrando’s column below, I think this is worth the price of admission, frankly.  He’s got a lot of wisdom to share that can help you be more successful as an independent resume writer.  ALSO - do you want a free hour with Jay Block?  Who doesn’t?!  You can still sign up for his Wednesday show/webinar and I suggest you do.  His guest this week is the super-fantastic Diane Hudson - two industry powerhouses!  I can’t wait!

Be well, Margaret

Spotlight Cover Note from the Exec

Posted By Administration, Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Dear PARWCC friends,

I feel like April was eleventy-billion days long, so it is welcome to turn the page to a new month.

LINK To SPOTLIGHT LIbrary

They say that it is the pressure of the earth pressing on coal that makes a diamond. I hope that’s so because I think a lot of us are feeling under pressure right now! However, I think with some planning and new opportunities we can still see a diamond out of all of this!

While we had ambitious plans for the upcoming year, our current global situation has pushed us into over-drive! Behind the scenes here at HQ we are working with our website team to smooth out some of our processes, but also to add new features. Watch for those coming soon!

You’ll see some additional webinar offerings and resources too - some exciting content that we think will spark your imagination and give you some tools to make things easier now and help you be ready for everything ahead!

Current unemployment numbers certainly suggest the career services provided by our members will be needed more than ever. We are working on some relationships that can highlight the work that you do and the value you bring to the job seeker at every level.

For our friends who are feeling it more acutely with loved ones affected - my heart is with you. Truly.

Above all, be well

- Margaret
