In today’s relationship-driven economy, leadership is communicated long before it is awarded by title. Clients advance in interviews based on how they sound, connect, and show up confidently in high-stakes moments. Coaching Clients to Sound Like a Leader is a two-day masterclass designed to help career coaches teach communication strategies that their clients can use in interviews and beyond.

This workshop introduces a practical, inclusive, and research-backed communication framework. You’ll learn how language choices, communication practices, and relational awareness can signal leadership presence.

What You Will Master

Across two interactive 75-minute sessions, you will:

Learn how to coach the specific communication behaviors that signal leadership readiness and influence.
Practice techniques that help clients align internal confidence with external impact.
Gain actionable tools to help professionals sound composed and credible in interviews and in everyday professional interactions.

Expect hands-on practice, immediately usable strategies, and a proven framework you can integrate directly into your coaching work. You’ll leave equipped to help clients (and yourself) communicate leadership presence, whether they have a title already or aspire to land one in their job search.

What to Expect

By the end of the series, participants will be able to:

1. Redefine “sounding like a leader” as an interpersonal skill grounded in communication research.
2. Explain and apply six core communication practices that help clients signal leadership readiness in interviews and professional conversations.
3. Identify the specific verbal and nonverbal behaviors that convey credibility, confidence, and connection under evaluative pressure.
4. Coach clients to regulate emotion and communicate calm confidence in high-stakes interview settings.
5. Model leader-level presence in coaching sessions and develop practical coaching tools.
6. Integrate leadership communication principles and strategies into coaching programs to support sustainable growth, self-awareness, and career advancement.

Meet Your Instructor – Sly Young, Ph.D.

Sly is an interview strategist and communication scholar with 25+ years of experience teaching and coaching effective interviewing. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Texas at Austin with an emphasis on interpersonal communication and is a PARWCC Certified Interview Coach. She believes that great interviews start with real connection. As a published author of peer-reviewed academic research and popular professional books, she blends research-backed methods with live practice, structured feedback, and storytelling techniques. Known for a warm, candid style, she equips clients and colleagues with practical playbooks that translate into stronger interviews and more opportunities for professional growth.
