The Number Tell the Story: How CIC LIVE is Building Confident Coaches

In January, twenty-five coaches logged into my first live Certified Interview Coach (CIC LIVE) cohort with a real mix of backgrounds. Some had been coaching interview skills for years without a formal method behind it. Others were brand new to the specialty, including a retiring librarian ready to start a second career and a community college career counselor building on what she’d learned mostly from Google searches. What they had in common was a gap between what they were doing for clients and what they wanted to be able to do.
I measured that gap twice: once at intake, before the course started, and again at the end of the program. Both surveys asked coaches to rate their own confidence across the same twelve core skills, from designing a tailored interview prep plan to measuring their own coaching impact. All twenty-five participants completed both surveys, which gave me a clean before-and-after picture of the impact of six weeks of live instruction.

12 of 12 Interview Coaching Competencies Improved
All 25 coaches reported an increase in their confidence with interview coaching skills, and every single one of the 12 competencies measured showed improvement. The average self-rated skill across all twelve areas moved from 2.66 to 4.36 on a five-point scale. That’s a substantial gain, and it held up consistently rather than being carried by a handful of outliers.
But the most interesting finding wasn’t the size of the overall increase. It was where the biggest changes occurred. Coaches came in least confident about handling newer challenges like AI and asynchronous interviews, unsure if they had the diagnostic judgment to assess interview performance, and uncertain about how to measure their own coaching effectiveness. The biggest gains showed up exactly where the biggest gaps were. Confidence in using tools to measure and improve coaching impact had the largest movement in the survey. Confidence in providing successful strategies for AI-assessed and asynchronous interviews nearly doubled. Confidence in their diagnostic ability to assess clients’ interview performances went from unsure (2.52 out of 5) to a near certainty (4.44 out of 5).
The fact that we saw some of the strongest increases in those areas tells me CIC LIVE isn’t simply reinforcing what experienced coaches already know. It’s helping coaches build current expertise in areas where the profession itself is changing. The competencies where coaches felt least equipped were exactly where the course closed the most ground.
Skills coaches already felt reasonably solid on, like coaching across different interview formats or helping clients navigate red flags such as terminations or resume gaps, still improved by more than a full point each. Nothing in the survey stayed flat.
Why LIVE Made the Difference
CIC had previously been a self-study program, so one of the questions I had when I redesigned it as a live cohort was whether the live format would add meaningful value. Several coaches said the live format mattered as much as the content. What came through in their comments was that they valued the opportunity to practice interview coaching, not just learn about it.
“The live coursework made a significant difference, and the real-world perspective added meaningful depth to the experience.”
“Having a live group is great, being able to network and bounce ideas off each other was very helpful.”
The data around the breakout sessions was where I saw that most concretely. In breakout rooms, coaches had to execute or role play different interview coaching skills live, in front of peers. One breakout session asked coaches to help a client reframe a negative belief about a termination, another had them prepare and deliver feedback on a mock “Tell Me About Yourself” answer. The breakout sessions were rated “useful” or “very useful” by 88 to 96 percent of participants, with the strongest response going to the session on preparing mock interview questions and the session on building a full coaching curriculum for a client. Several coaches commented that they would like even more of that practice time in future cohorts.
They Built a Methodology
Every single respondent, all twenty-five, agreed that the course improved their coaching skills, improved their confidence as a coach, and that they’d recommend it to a colleague. It was unanimous agreement across three separate outcome measures.
The open-ended comments explain why. The words that came up again and again were “tools”, “framework”, and “methodology”.
“I now have a clear framework and tools to offer my clients.”
“The tools and frameworks are immediately usable with clients and provide a clear methodology that goes well beyond typical interview preparation tactics.”
“Each session was meaningful and filled with practical tools that enhanced my confidence as a career coach”
“I wasn’t just learning concepts—I was building a repeatable coaching methodology.”
All 25 Coaches Unanimously Agreed

They Saw Results Fast
The cohort reported that practical results showed up fast. One coach said, “I am immediately bringing a ton of extra value to everyone who works with me and have already seen a huge uptick in client success.” Similar comments included:
“I left each session with clear takeaways I could immediately apply in my coaching work.”
“By the end of the second session, I was already incorporating what I learned into my coaching practice.”
“I learned skills and techniques that I could immediately incorporate into my interview skills coaching”
They Were Ready to Sell the Service
Although 80% of the coaches said they did not offer interview coaching as a separate service when they started the program, many described their confidence in offering it as an independent service after completing the course
“This course was what I needed to feel confident selling my coaching services.”
“I went from peeking at a brand-new career and wondering if I can even do that at my age, to feeling like I will be ready to be a coach and help people land their dream jobs.”
“(The CIC LIVE course) prepared me to provide interview coaching as a stand-alone service”.
They Built Confidence
A methodology they could use, results they could see with clients, and a service they felt ready to take to market: these were exactly the outcomes I designed CIC LIVE to deliver. I wanted coaches to leave with an adaptable, data-informed interview coaching methodology they could use intentionally with any client. I wanted them to feel confident in their interview knowledge, coaching expertise, diagnostic judgment, and ability to teach the communication skills that help clients win offers. The results from this first cohort tell me we’re doing exactly that.
The second CIC LIVE cohort just finished their program and is completing their certification exams now. If this data is any indication, they’re about to walk back into their practices with a level of confidence they didn’t have six weeks ago.
I can’t wait to see what story their numbers tell.
