Course Content

PARWCC Business Academy: Build Your Business Course is a live coaching program hosted online for seven consecutive weeks. Meetings will be approximately one hour long and scheduled at a mutually agreed-upon time for both the coach and the cohort.

Angie designed this curriculum, directly linked to the learning experiences, failures, and successes she’s seen over the last five years building Career Benders.

Week 1

Introductions and Business Foundations

This module will cover business fundamentals, including incorporation and formation, obtaining an EIN, financial management and business banking, domains and website basics, core business technology to manage contacts, insurance, and other operational best practices required to get paid, limit tax risk, and create a profitable business regardless of income goals.

If you’re already established in business, you likely have this structure in place. However, there’s always something to learn as we’re continually getting our houses in order, mitigating risk, and setting the foundation for growth and greater capacity.

Week 2

Niches, Packages, and Pricing

Selling solutions is one of the best ways to build traction in your business. When you approach your business from the perspective of service, and you align that with the needs and desires of your prospective clients, magic happens!

This section will cover a variety of sales and marketing tactics to help entrepreneurs deliver what clients need and want. We’ll start with a deep dive into niche markets to identify pain points and align core services to these avatars before determining how to bundle and price packages that appeal to the way clients buy.

Week 3

Lead Generation and Marketing Plans

Marketing 101 is a never-ending topic among entrepreneurs and can be overwhelming. This course section is designed to help business owners create a strategic marketing plan that is focused and doable while alleviating the feeling of doing it ALL.

We’ll cover short-term marketing and launch strategies for business start-ups, new product rollouts, and ramping up new client acquisitions. Then, we’ll design a longer-term marketing plan to drive organic lead generation, create social media strategies, and get that SEO engine running.

Week 4

Content 101 / LinkedIn Thought Leadership

Being a thought leader is exhausting. The rise of social media and the importance of platforms like LinkedIn to this craft means we all need to be constant content generators. As an extension of the marketing module, we’ll dive into the fundamentals of content creation to help you create a strategy for managing the content beast. We’ll also work on messaging to ensure the content aligns with the solutions-based approach developed in our previous work and homework.

Week 5

Selling, Follow-up Funnels, and Client Experience

Technology. Like it or not, it’s an integral part of our lives, and it can be an amazing asset to you as you establish and grow your business. It can also be a slippery slope, a rabbit hole, and a money pit if you’re anything like me and have an affinity for applications and systems.

We’ll make sense of the types of technology you should consider incorporating at each phase of your business while also working on some time and calendar management fundamentals to ensure you can maximize your capacity without overdoing it.

Tech 101 is an important week! Growing a business is amazing but can also be a slippery slope. This course section will help coaches manage calendars to understand their capacity as they expand their clientele. This ensures a business owner knows what a full workload (for them!) looks like and can work to achieve it while safeguarding against overbooking. Here’s where we start putting it all together and using the great business, product, and marketing foundation we’ve built to set up automations. Strategic use of technology can help with repetitive tasks and follow-up, so we’ll focus on business, technology, and process-based systems to support a growing business and the solopreneurial effort.

Week 6

Time Management and Systems to Streamline

Graduation! This is the final exam and opportunity to put everything you’ve learned into practice. Each module we’ve covered is an independently running little system of its own, but when put together, they’re all building blocks that provide a strong foundation for business.

As we wrap up a fantastic eight weeks together, we’ll review our progress, celebrate wins, and make executable plans to use everything you’ve learned as you go forward in your business. We’ll talk about leveraging all these building blocks for a solid sales strategy while setting measurable goals to keep each other accountable after we all depart from this group.

Week 7

Popcorn! It’s Mastermind Night (aka, ask me anything)

There’s a lot of power in the group, and business is always more fun when you have collaborators to drive the creative process, so think of this week as a mini mastermind!

You’ll get to know some of your cohorts a little more as we move into small group breakout sessions where you can work together to workshop your marketing and content strategies. Bounce ideas for articles off of each other, set up cross-promotions, and create an atmosphere of accountability. Hopefully, these relationships will move beyond this program, giving you a great partner and sounding board for years to come.

Week 8

Graduation: Putting It All Together and Road Mapping Your Goals

Meet Your Instructor – Angie M. Callen, CPRW, CPCC

Angie Callen is a creative, critical, and strategic thinker who thrives in situations requiring logic, creativity, communication, and action. She truly believes everyone deserves to be happy in their careers. Her ethos drives her work as a career coach, résumé writer, and entrepreneurial advisor.

Angie founded her coaching business, Career Benders, because she wanted to help people grow into their full potential, whether in a new job, leveling up into leadership, or taking the exciting step to explore entrepreneurship. She’s built a successful business by helping her clients rise above this norm, recover from life and career situations that have broken their confidence, and help them see their true worth – personally and professionally.

As a former engineer and nonprofit executive, Angie’s perspective on business and careers provides a unique advantage to career coaches and résumé writers looking to establish and grow a sustainable business that can provide a secure financial future.

Originally from Pittsburgh and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, Angie has called the Colorado mountains home for almost 15 years. When she’s not logging screen hours or working with clients, you can find her adventuring in the mountains – whitewater paddle-boarding, fly fishing, backpacking, and skiing — or working on a DIY home project with her husband, Jim, as they make over a 100-year-old log cabin they recently purchased in quaint Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

Angie is a Certified Professional Résumé Writer (CPRW), and Certified Professional Career Coach (CPCC) accredited through the Professional Association of Résumé Writers and Career Coaches (PARWCC)
